Mr. George L. Arnett

May 2, 1924 - February 1, 2014

Mr. George L. Arnett, 89, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Mississippi State Veteran's Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home of Louisville on Monday, February 3, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Poplar Flat Baptist Church in Louisville. Interment will follow in Poplar Flat Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Arnett was born May 2, 1924, to Ida Pearl Bagwell Arnett and George Elmo Arnett. He was a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon. He retired as a self-employed appliance/refrigeration/electrical serviceman. Mr. Arnett answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army during World War II for which he received the Good Conduct Medal. He was an avid fisherman and for many years he was also a member of the Land O Lakes Sportsman Club of Brooksville. He is survived by two sons, Dr. William R. Arnett and wife, Delores, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Wayne Arnett of Brandon, Mississippi; and his daughters, Kay Todd and husband, Donny, of Louisville; and Carolyn Varner and husband, Robert, of Madison, Mississippi. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ryan Arnett and wife, Jamie; Jason Arnett and wife, Pamela; Dr. Misty Sharp and husband, Jason; Ginger Gorman and husband, Shane; Brent Varner; Leslie Varner, and Bryce Varner; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Clara Collier and husband, Bill, of Starkville, Mississippi; and his brother, Harold Arnett and wife, Jeanette, of Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Arnett; his parents; seven brothers: Elmer, Doyle, Charlie, Terrel Lee, Carmen, Marvin and Glynn Arnett; and his sister, Willard Avery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Arnett, Jason Arnett, Brent Varner, Jason Sharp, Shane Gorman, and Terry Arnett. Memorials may be given to Poplar Flat Baptist Church Cemetery or Building Fund, P. O. Box 684, Louisville, MS 39339 or to Quality Hospice Care, 340 Byrd Avenue, Philadelphia, MS 39350 Services are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
