Ida Mae Black

September 25, 1932 - December 30, 2021

Ida Mae Black, 89, of McCool, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at her residence after a brief illness surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rob Faulk officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service in Rural Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Black was born September 25, 1932, to Elbert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Ramage Teer in Attala County, Mississippi. She attended Glendale Grammar School and was a graduate of Ethel High School Class of 1951. Ida Mae grew up in the Pentecostal faith. She was the matriarch and loving mother of a large family. Her life was busy taking care of her family; she was known for her large vegetable gardens and for canning the fruits of her labor. She always hosted all the family gatherings and was a great cook. Ida Mae is survived by her 10 children: Julia (Gary) Burchfield of McCool, Mississippi, Kathy (Dan) May, of Stephens City, Virginia, Darlene Waltman of Hermitage, Tennessee, Martha (Billy) Pruett of Brandon, Mississippi, Betty Black also of Brandon, Lee (Cathy) Black of Heber City, Utah, Louise Black (Kevin) Coogan of Jackson, Mississippi; John Black of Palm Springs, California, Karl Black of McCool, and Karol (Laura) Black of Brandon, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her only great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Linda Miller. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Ivy Willard Black, her parents, her brother Elbert Lamar Teer, her grandparents John and Ida Joanna Crosby Teer, and her aunt Rosie Ann Teer. Serving as pallbearers are John Black, Karl Black, Karol Black, Lee Black, Andrew Black, and Nolan Burchfield. Memorials in honor of Ida Mae may be given to Rural Hill Cemetery Fund. Services are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
