Johnnie Dee Wray Hill Rogers

March 1, 1929 - March 4, 2018

Johnnie Dee Wray Hill Rogers, age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Rush Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville and from 10:30 a.m. until service time at Vernon United Methodist Church on Wednesday. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, with Rev. Doug Herring and Rev. Becky Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Johnnie was born March 1, 1929, to Johnny and Ala Sue Stokes Wray. She was a member of Vernon United Methodist Church where she held the distinction of having the longest membership. Johnnie loved her church and her church family. She enjoyed being the song leader for many years and she helped to maintain the church cemetery. She was a homemaker and she also worked at Spartus Corporation for approximately 20 years. Additionally, she loved gardening and her pets as well as working in her yard. Most of all, she loved her family. Johnnie is survived by her children: Reggie Hill of Houston, Texas; Danny Hill of Louisville; Linda Hill Boydston and husband, Mike, also of Louisville; and Kathy Hill Vanlandingham and husband, Ricky, of Hernando, Mississippi. She also leaves behind a sister, Mescal Sullivan of Noxapater, Mississippi; and a brother, Erville Wray and wife, Betty, of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her 11 grandchildren: Quinn Michael Hill (Sharla); Amy Hill Pace (Kevin); Casey Hill (Cathy); Kelsey Hill; Hannah Hill (Burke Schmollinger); Austin Hill (Amber); Kristen Childress; Mandy Clark (Josh); Chase Boydston, Chaille Vanlandingham and Reese Vanlandingham. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren: Estes Louise Hill; Palmer Wray Hill; Makenna Clark; Jada Clark, Brooklyn Clark; Parker Hill; Wyatt Pace, Lucy Pace; and Reid Childress. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Samuel Hill and Ray Rogers; two sons, Tommy Hill and Warren Hill; an infant son, Bobbie Ray Hill; her parents; and her siblings, Miriam Womble; Joseph Wray; and Martha Satterfield. Serving as pallbearers are Quinn Michael Hill, Chase Boydston, Reese Vanlandingham, Ricky Vanlandingham, Steve Moore, Johnny Stokes, and Jerry Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers are Casey Hill, Austin Hill, Raymond Reed, Lamar Parkes, Jack Edmonson, Donnie Hollis, and Danny Heard. Memorial contributions in honor of Johnnie may be given to Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Babs Moore, 106 Hanna Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
