Max Teters

October 6, 1937 - February 5, 2022

Max Teters was born Robert James Max Terry Teters on October 6, 1937, to John and Artie Teters in Morrilton, Arkansas. He left this earth peacefully with his son Darren by his side at the Kosciusko Veterans Home on Saturday February 5, 2022, at the age of 84 years old. Mr. Teters was raised in Valliant, Oklahoma, and after graduating early from high school, he attended Oklahoma State University and graduated on May 29, 1960, with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then joined the Navy and served from August 1960 until 1962 as an Electronic Communications Officer. In 1962, he was employed by American Petrofina and met Eleanor Faye Ray Teters. After a brief courtship, they were married and moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Their daughter, Tere, was born there in 1967. He then went to work for Exxon and their first duty station was Tripoli, Libya. In 1969, their son Darren was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and they returned to North Africa. Following this posting, the next duty assignment was Singapore, Malaysia, from 1973-1976. He continued working for Exxon living in Houston until 1984 and then transferred to McCormick Oil and Gas in Tyler, Texas. He then opened a restaurant and two convenience stores in Hawkins, Texas, and worked these with Faye until the year 2000. It was in 2000 that they returned to Mississippi. He was an ardent supporter of the American Legion Post 44 out of Kosciusko, Mississippi, and a faithful attendee of Doty Springs Baptist Church for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, four brothers, one sister, his daughter and his wife of 55 years who he loved until his last breath. He was survived by his son Darren Ray Teters and wife Robbie Robinson Teters, granddaughter Darrien Teters of Kerrville, Texas, grandson Preston Teters and wife Justine, and great-grandson Atticus Teters of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by son-in-law Danny Eaton and granddaughters Sarah Eaton, Patricia Eaton and Gina Eaton of Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 12 at Doty Springs Baptist Church, 2491 Attala Road 5205, Ethel, Mississippi, 39067. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Doty Springs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Regis Dixon, Chris Dixon, Jamie Dixon, Randy Edwards, Paul Holly, and Kenneth Woods. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Ballard, Burlon Crocker, and Jerry Williamson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Doty Springs Baptist Church, P. O. Box 266, Ethel, MS 39067. Services are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
