Mrs. Slawson Vaughn

October 23, 1937 - September 22, 2012

Mrs. Catherine Slawson Vaughn, 74, entered the Greater Life on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at her residence in Union, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Lundy, Rev. Wayne Hill, and Rev. Johnny Collins officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Vaughn was born on October 23, 1937. She lived in the Nanih Waiya area for 50 years and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was also a member of Neshoba Baptist Church. Special thanks to Quality Hospice for their special care. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by three sons, Randy Slawson of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Paul Slawson and wife, Jessica, of Henderson, Kentucky; and Wayne Slawson and wife, Jennifer of Ashland City, Tennessee; Vicky Higginbotham of Noxapater, Mississippi; two step-daughters, Janice Usry (Ernest) and Brenda McRorey both of Union, Mississippi; one sister; Lexie Barnes Craft of Raleigh, Mississippi; and three brothers: John Barnes of Chicago, Illinois; Robert Barnes and wife, Loretta, of Langley, Oklahoma; and Eddie Barnes of Ackerman, Mississippi. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Slawson and Fred Vaughn; her parents, Bill and Ethel Fortenberry Barnes; a son, Michael R. "Mike" Slawson; and her brother, Hulon "Pete" Barnes. Pallbearers will be Billy Charles Stokes, Lavern Green, Justin Kitchens, Carl Noel Stokes, David Foster, and Charles Henry Stokes. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, 532 E. Main Street, Louisville, Mississippi, 39339. Arrangements are under the direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
